Suncore Photovoltaics commenced production of its concentrated photovoltaic (CPV) modules in China’s Huainan (Anhui) at the end of February. A spokesperson provides further details on capacity ramp ups and funding.
Current manufacturing capacity of Suncore’s CPV modules is 200 megawatts (MW), however, there are plans in the pipeline to significantly ramp this up over the next three years. A spokesperson for Emcore Corporation, which set Suncore up along with San'an Optoelectronics, tells pv magazine that capacity is expected to be increased to 300 MW in 2013, 500 MW in 2014 and one gigawatt in 2015.
They add that the facility is spread across 1.9 million square feet, and that Suncore is supporting orders for several other projects, including the already-announced 50 MW purchase order for a CPV installation in Golmud – expected to take between six to nine months to complete. Furthermore, total registered capital in Suncore is currently US$67 million, and the company received subsidies from the metro government in China worth around $0.20 per Watt.
The production facility has been operational since February 21. The CPV modules produced use Emcore’s 40 percent multi-junction solar cells, and are said to be suitable for both utility and large commercial ground-mounted projects.
