IPEV
From the North Pole to the South Pole, or a world tour the AUVERSUN way
In 2009, the Paul-Emile Victor Institute (IPEV) decided to install 10 AUVERSUN photovoltaic panels at the scientific research base of Concordia in Adélie Land in the context of their test programme for the production of renewable energy in Antarctica. The panels were installed during the austral summer and they were able to carry out measurements before the end of summer. So, by mid-March, the peak power noted was over 45 % to the expected standard although the temperature was -55° C and daylight hours did not last more than 8 hours per day.
Encouraged by these reassuring results, IPEV has continued its progress as planned for photovoltaic power production with a first phase with a theoretical standard power rating of 38-KWc. The institute then ordered 168 AV230 poly crystalline modules from AUVERSUN. These modules will be installed in Concordia during the next austral summer.
In parallel, IPEV will also continue its experiments and install 18 AV230 mono-crystalline modules near the international scientific base at Ny-Alesund, situated in the north-west of Spitsbergen, part of the Svalbard archipelago in the Arctic Ocean which lies beyond the arctic circle.
